This collection of articles was the outgrowth of an international symposium, “Intersectionality and Being Zainichi,” presented by the Osaka University Global Japanese Studies Education and Research Incubator, the Dongguk University Institute for Japanese Studies, and the Seoul National University Institute for Japanese Studies. Contributors seek to open new pathways for studying Zainichi literature and culture by considering the intersections of Zainichi identity with other modes of identification.
My contributions include a brief introduction to the collection, co-authored with Nicholas Lambrecht (Osaka University), and a short article in Japanese, “Transnational Intersectionalities and ‘Zainichi’ in the English-Language Gaze: On Min Jin Lee’s Pachinko and Yu Miri’s Tokyo Ueno Station.”
